The eating disorder Anorexia Nervosa is characterized by the willingness to not eat, for fear of becoming fat, it’s also characterized by the need to control ones body. Anorexia Nervosa is tightly linked to another eating disorder, Bulimia, Bulimia is characterized by the loss of control when eating. Someone with Bulimia will binge-eat, stuffing abnormally large amounts of food into their body, and afterwards that same person will feel guilty and to get rid of the calories consumed they will do one or both of two methods. The most common way is purging such as self-induced vomiting or the use of laxatives or enemas, there is also non-purging which is extreme fasting or excessive exercise, either way is unhealthy and can do serious harm to ones body. It’s still unclear what truly causes these disorders, although researchers have suggested a variety of things, one study suggests the possibility of inheriting the Anorexia through a particular chromosome in the genes. There are many other factors that are environmental, girls that are heavily criticized at home by either parents or siblings are more likely to develop the either or both of the disorders, anorexia/bulimia nervosa is also more likely to strike females in professions which require thinness, such as ballet, modeling, and certain sports.
