The question must be asked how Jim Jones a cult leader amass as much power as he did in an urban sophisticated setting as San Francisco in 1975. The answer lays within the first part of the above question “power” Jones commanded an army of 8,000 dedicated followers who worked night and day for him, but more importantly went where he told them to go and voted as he told them to vote. Politicians quickly came to realize that not only was Jones very generous monetarily to those he approved of, he could and would bus a cheering mass of 3,000 people to a voters rally.
