Many years ago, abortion was illegal in Canada. The practice was prohibited unconditionally in Canadian criminal code. It prohibits abortion as well as the sale, distribution and advertising of contraceptives. A significant number of women continue to seek abortions. Thousands of women died because they did not want to bear an infant and attempted to terminate the child's life by themselves or with an unprofessional approach. Henry Morgentaler, a Montreal family doctor he opened abortion debate. He opened his first Abortion clinic; initially started performing abortions in the late 1960s. However, Morgentaler was convicted and sentenced by a panel of judges. Morgentaler spent ten months in prison. He fought for women’s legal rights for Abortion. (Renneboog & Richard, 2009).
