Interesting post. Can you link us to the BBC item?

I notice that these are Britain's favourite books and that their belovedness is the main citeria in their ranking, not their artistic or literary merit. Some of them are actually quite awful. Laughing

American lists of this type almost always have Ayn Rand at or near the top. I don't think much of The Lord of the Rings, but at least it ain't Ayn Rand. cheers

I have actually read 52 of these books in full and about 5 more in partial. I agree with some of these titles being awful and some are quite juvenile as well but still interesting. I originally received this posted via facebook and have now found an investigative report on PurpleCar describing that BBC originally had posted a similar book list but entitled 'The Big Read' Top 100 Books asking people to vote on their favorite votes... that list has been reported by Snopes to be a meme via facebook and had been altered.
